The Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice has been working with Medical Objects for several years now and in the early stages of the development of the Medical Objects suite of software, the Division and the IM/IT team were engaged with the product and its progress. The Medical Objects suite has continued to develop since then and has given the Division the opportunity to trial, adopt and use it successfully.
About 18 months ago the Division, in collaboration with Medical Objects, undertook a trial program to have GPs and Specialists communicate with two Division satellite offices using secure technologies and the Medical Objects software and infrastructure. The trial was designed to assist with the management and delivery of Allied Health services.
This trial proved very successful. The process has moved out of trial stage and continues to be used by these satellite offices in the delivery of services to their local community. GPs and Specialists use the Medical Objects products to securely communicate with the Division Allied Health Team on a daily basis.
More recently the Division has undertaken two areas of focus and collaboration with Medical Objects
- Firstly the uptake of the Medical Objects ‘referral client’ is now putting GPs directly in contact, electronically from the desktop, with other GPs and specialists on the coast. No more telephone tag for Sunshine Coast GPs – Referrals (depending on GP preferences), copies of referrals clarifications and subsequent communications are done straight from Medical Director (or any clinical software) / word processor directly to the specialist.
- Secondly the Division is partnering with Medical Objects and Queensland Health to trial the delivery of electronic discharge summaries to GPs. This process takes advantage of existing Medical Objects infrastructure and technologies to add value and efficiencies to GP processes. A Division wide rollout of this process is planned.
The Division now plays an active part in taking these solutions to its membership
The experience of the Division with its own usage of Medical Objects and with its involvement in installations, training and some limited support, is that the product seems to just work ‘straight out of the box’ with little need for user intervention. Support, when required, has been prompt, detailed and successful.
