Medical-Objects Solution FAQ
Q. What are the legal issues with electronic messaging?
A: To send patient data over the internet it is a requirement that the data be encrypted so only the recipient can read the document.
Security and Privacy were concerns at the top of our list in the design of this software. Medical-Objects' Electronic Referrals are compliant  with the Electronic Transactions Act, cth (1999) and associated Medical Technical Requirements for the Electronic Transactions Act as long as you are using a PKI key issued by Medicare Australia.
Medical-Objects transmits data using Public Key Encryption technology and every individual report can only be viewed by those who have specifically been granted access.
We use PGP or PKI encryption - you know exactly who you are talking to and they know who you are.

Q. Are there contracts to lock me in?
A: Once medical-Objects is running at your practice you are under no obligation to keep using it.
If you find it doesn't suit your needs it can simply be removed from your computer at any time.

For Specialists, once you have installed and an evaluation period is finished, a once a year subscription fee ensures that you receive the necessary software, support and quality service you would expect.

Q: Will it interfere with my other software?
A: Experience to date has shown that running Medical-Objects has no effect on the day to day running of your computer or server.

Q: How do I know if I'm choosing the right messaging system?
A: Medical-Objects is a research and development company, ensuring that you use the latest technology available. We pride ourselves on developing quality innovative products in the messaging space that are designed for the clinicians that use it , with the result being software that is easier to use and puts you in control.
The Medical-Objects software suit is designed to support your needs both now and for the future. The software integrates with all the major practice systems and our Australian based support lines are ready to help you during normal business hours.

Q: Is the set up process 'long winded'?
A: It's a matter of faxing us back a completed form - found on our website. We'll then call you and install Medical-Objects over the phone / remotely, usually within 15mins. Your computers don't need to be switched off and you can get back to work even while we are installing the software.

What makes Medical-Objects so unique?
What makes Medical-Objects so unique is how it improves the efficiency of provider's practices by improving communication channels, reducing your costs or both. We hear stories from our customers on how they save significant amounts of money on postage costs or find that they do not have to call pathology providers to chase up results after a patient is there for an appointment. All of this combines gives you more time and more money, a result we are rather pleased with. Here at Medical-Objects, we work hard to give you a high quality application that is both intuitive and fits the needs of what you do everyday, and that means a more pleasant user experience.

How does it work with my other systems that I run in my clinic?
Most clinics that we see run a variety of systems and we try to work with the most popular systems to ensure that you receive your messages. Currently we support Best Practice, Medical Director, Genie on the PC and Mac, as well as several others. Our flexible architecture means that if the system you have is not listed above, then contact our team and we'll see what we can do to support it.

Most HL7 compliant software can be used with Medical-Objects. At several public presentations, Medical-Objects has been demonstrated effectively on how well it integrates with other medical systems.

What does Medical-Objects cost?
There are several different versions of Medical-Objects, with the entry level version available free.

Where does Medical-Objects fit into my practice?
Put simply , Medical-Objects will replace stamps & envelopes, scanning,  filing and faxing of  GP referrals / Specialist letters. The software sends your document from your currently used clinical software, electronically to the addressee.
It speeds up communication and saves you time and money.

Who has access to my documents?
Security and Privacy were concerns at the top of our list in the design of this software.
All data is transmitted using Public Key Encryption technology and every individual report can only be viewed by those who have specifically been granted access.
We use PGP or PKI encryption - you know exactly who you are talking to and they know who you are.

What level of computer knowledge do I need to use Medical-Objects?
Medical-Objects Download Client is fully automated, requiring no intervention.
To use Medical-Objects Referral Client; if you are typing your own referrals already , sending the document takes 3 more steps and it will be delivered in real-time.

What support is available to me?
Support details for Medical-Objects customers can be found by selecting the 'Customer Support' link on the menu to the left.

Can Medical-Objects support PDF files and images?
Yes can transport both images and PDF files.

Is there a limit to the amount of data on the clipboard when sending using the 'Referral Writing' Client?

There is no limitation on the size of clipboard.
A patient name needs to be captured in the result.
If  the "big M" doesn't pop up when  coping  it to the
clipboard, then that would be because the phrase "RE:" is needed for the
program to detect whether it should pop up . Sometimes documents such as pathology result text
doesn't contain that phrase. If it doesn't contain the phrase then after
copying to the clipboard the 'little M' near the clock "tray icon" (bottom
right), can be right clicked, and choose "Capture from Clipboard".
Both Surname, First name, and DOB, must be completed, before the Send button
can be pressed.

PKI Tokens

What is a PKI Token?
A PKI token is an individual Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Token.

Who is responsible for PKI?
The token is issued by Medicare Australia.

What does it do?
A PKI provides authentication for online transactions. In other words it is your electronic signature. Once you have installed the PKI token, documents will now be electronically signed each time you send one through Medical-Objects.

How do I get one?
You can apply online at http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/provider/business/online/register/apply.shtml

What is the application process?
The application process will take 10 minutes of your time and you will need 100 points of identification. A passport/birth certificate and provider number will do. Then just follow the prompts, filling out your details as you go.

What happens next?
Once you receive your token from Mediare Australia, simply call them to receive your password. It then must be changed. Or if you have the Medical Objects Referal Client "Trinity" already installed you can do this by clicking on the icon at the bottom right of page and move to 'Admin' in the dropdown box.

Install the Driver either by using the CD sent to you or from the Medical-Objects web site.

The PKI system will then be ready to use.
